Mobility Operations Manager

Forrester Analyst Chris Silva has recently written a paper on the emerging Mobility Operations Manager role that is worth a good look (see http://www.forrester.com/Research/Document/0,7211,45665,00.html). The Mobility Operations Manager heads up the new centralized mobility organization that is responsible for a comprehensive mobility strategy and its execution. 

In Chris’ summary of the document:  “As mobility increases in complexity, multiplying the hardware, software, and services an organization regularly invests in and must support, the mobile operations role — a sub-role within IT operations — will emerge as a central point of expertise and control over the many parts of organizational mobility. Because it is a new function within IT, however, many organizations are struggling to build skills around this role, or they source external help to provide a broad base of experience to adequately do the job.” (more…)

WFH

I know it’s happening more for me these days and almost everyone I know – my entire team is WFH (Working From Home) today. With rising prices for gas, bridge tolls, and public transit (like BART in SF) – working from home is becoming more prevalent. Since I can IM my co-workers, and view others desktops remotely (a la WebEx and Go-To Meeting) – there are more tools than ever to keep you functioning and effective from somewhere other than your office.
