Another SaaS-y Thought

Last week I blogged about an article that was comparing the benefits of Do-It-Yourself versus a Managed Service – and I tossed a third hat in the ring – SaaS. (3rd option is a Charm) And what do you know – here it is!

From Enterprise Mobility World, here’s an article “Benefits of Software as a Service” (SaaS). This article goes through the various categories of benefits that the SaaS model offers enterprises. I think it tells a good story.

But then again, as I’ve told you already, I’m SaaS-y…and I’m not alone.

The more that is being asked us, the more we want from the tools we use to get the job done. We all have rising expectations about what our mobile devices should do for us. More and more is what we’re used to. And more is more being offered.

The demand is there, the supply is there, and IT is in that tough spot in the middle. It looks like, according to this survey from the WES 2008 Conference that enterprises are stepping up to say “ok” to more and more mobile applications even while security concerns are the number one road block to the adoption of enterprise mobile applications.

We all want a little more - is that so wrong? As long as it’s safe.

He may be from across the pond, but the issues around mobility solutions are the same.  This guy is talking about what to consider when selecting an Enterprise Mobility solution - and he’s comparing and contrasting managed service solutions with DIY…I contend that there is a third option to be considered - on-demand.  But I think his evaluation criteria for a solution is right on.

Daily I fight against procrastination - so I always respond well to a “Just Do It” type of motivation. I thought this was an interesting article about enterprise mobility management - and that it’s time to get started. I personally agree with the “lack of preceived need” being a primary factor that is keeping folks from taking action, and most people and organizations can’t afford to not know what they have and what they’re spending where, with who & why.

More and more people are mobile these days and the percentage of mobile employees is increasing. Companies are signing up with mobile devices with more power to enable employees to do more. Enterprise Mobility is a growing concern for CIOs and each company has a different way of dealing with expenditure around mobility. (more…)
