3G aircards on the rise as more productivity required in the field
Wednesday, January 27th, 2010Almost mirroring the growth in smartphone adoption at corporations around the world, 3G aircards, dongles and embedded chipsets in laptops are on the rise just as well. Nearly every enterprise-class laptop is shipping with 3G connectivity embedded.
Many of these forthcoming 3G-equipped laptops are being powered by Qualcomm’s multi-carrier Gobi chipset. Indeed, the company’s chairman and CEO Paul Jacobs spent a considerable amount of time on the keynote stage at CES earlier this month demonstrating the capabilities these devices will deliver.
At last count, Visage Mobile’s customers with more than 500 lines of service comprised an average penetration rate of 21 percent for 3G modules. We think it’s only a matter of time before that number more closely resembles the average adoption rate throughout all businesses. Currently that average is in the low single digits, but with more IT departments activating 3G modules for employees below the executive level that will change.
Visage Mobile is convinced 3G modules will play a much greater role in corporate mobility. In fact, we made it the fourth of our Top Five Enterprise Mobile Predictions for 2010.
