Cell phones will add capacity, lose high price point in 2010, say experts
Tuesday, November 10th, 2009Mobile research firm inCode telecom predicts that smart phones will gain more functionality and cost less in 2010, which can only be described as good news for mobile expenses management.
The cell phone information came as part of inCode’s annual predictions for the telecom market, the latest edition of which was released today. The company predicts that netbook PCs will continue to experience widespread sales growth, but that their adoption will prove a mixed blessing for enterprise and consumers, driving incremental costs higher.
The company also predicts that one of the major smart phone operating systems will fold within the next year, citing rapidly strengthening competition at the top, especially from Google’s Android OS. inCode says that this could lead to consolidation in a market with fully seven players at the top level.
Net neutrality and telecom pricing are likely to be intertwined, according to inCode, which predicts that surges in mobile data use will force telecom providers to ration data use more closely, if not prevented by governmental or industry regulation.
